Power banks live in our bags, cars and nightstands, so a recall is easy to miss. On September 24, 2026 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of a NEWDERY power bank sold on Amazon because it can overheat and catch fire. Here is how to check yours in about two minutes.
The recall at a glance
- Product: NEWDERY power bank, model ZHX-PB22
- How many: about 21,380 units
- Where sold: Amazon only, October 2023 through November 2024, for about $27 to $50
- What it looks like: black, with a yellow cable and NEWDERY printed on the front
- The problem: 9 reports of overheating, including one fire with about $2 million in property damage
- The fix: a full refund
How to check yours
- Read the label. The brand and model number are printed on the back or side of the pack. Look for NEWDERY and ZHX-PB22.
- Check your Amazon orders. Search your order history for “power bank” between October 2023 and November 2024.
- Search the recall database. Go to cpsc.gov/Recalls and type the brand name. This works for any product, not just this one.
If yours matches
Stop using and charging it right away. Do not throw it in the trash or drop it in a store battery bin, because a damaged lithium battery can start a fire in a garbage truck or recycling center. Contact NEWDERY for the refund and disposal instructions at newdery.com or 888-256-6673.
Warning signs on any power bank
- The case is swelling, bulging or no longer sits flat
- It gets hot to the touch while charging
- You notice a chemical or burning smell
- It was dropped hard, cracked or got wet
If you see any of these, unplug it, set it on a hard surface away from anything that burns, and stop using it. Charge battery packs where you can see them, not under a pillow or in a bag.
